I think, getting into music almost entirely in the internet generation, and never quite finding what I was looking for in shops, that's what I've wanted record shops to actually be - a place to randomly look at interesting things and talk to strangers. Indoor parks. It's weird all the articles eulogizing record stores try to place some meaning on the format while talking about all the other stuff that was the real appeal. Selling vinyl gave them an excuse to exist in a capitalist framework but it's the existing that's valuable more than the excuse. Dunno where I'm going with this, it's late...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38519501.post-35508894078727289592013-01-19T01:03:46.600+00:002013-01-19T01:03:46.600+00:00Oh the irony. Many of the things we think we own, from our music to our homes (in the case of 'homeowners') is really only licensed/loaned/mortgaged to us and can be just as easily taken away from us..https://www.blogger.com/profile/17026835814805695527noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38519501.post-83378135057275620102013-01-18T13:14:46.196+00:002013-01-18T13:14:46.196+00:00Really nice piece.
The other factor in downloadab...Really nice piece.

The other factor in downloadable media is the question of 'ownership'. Now when we pay for mp3s or an e-book we merely purchase a license to 'use' it. We never own it.

This a tax break factor for companies like Amazon and Apple (iTunes) as well as a new element in the immateriality of cultural artefacts in these digital times.

Anyway. Good stuff (as usual). Marc Kushinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14860244054248848927noreply@blogger.com
