Anyway this night in question three guys from eastern Europe came in to play poker. Fred had a guest book in the hallway and all three of these guys filled in their details except one who wrote something rude. They then went to play poker. After fred inspected his guest book he noticed that one of them had written something rude Fred came back to the table and asked which one of you had messed up his guest book. one of these guys got up and again repeated what he had written previously. On noticing what this guy had done again Fred went to the table, . picked up this guy in a head lock and it happened so fast that i noticed Fred beard full of blood. Fred dragged him to the front door and threw him down the stairs. Fred then ran to the toilet and when he came out his beard was washed. He then said that he had bitten off his nose and flushed his nose down the toilet. there is a lot more to this storyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38519501.post-25858126735653299442020-08-20T18:00:54.037+01:002020-08-20T18:00:54.037+01:00Did anyone see or meet Mandy Rice-Davies there? To the left was the small dance floor packed with Mod couples dancing the Twist. I sat beside a small blonde and observed the dancing which was surprisingly good. As the music started up again I approached a girl sitting by the dance floor and asked her for a dance. She looked at me in astonishment and told me to "fuck off". The blonde was killing herself with laughter when I returned in shock at the vehemence of my rejection and she kindly advised me on the etiquette prevailing. It was then that I noticed the "Tootal Shirt" model there by the floor. Armed with the "knowledge" I sauntered casually across, caught her eye, crooked my finger at her and "twisted" my way onto the dance floor. When I turned surprise, surprise she was dancing with me!!!!! I was an innocent just out of home adventurer abroad but loved the ambience, the music and the dancing. Three or four dawns a week I walked the 5 miles back to Shepherd's Bush for a swift nap before catching the Tube to Photographic College. Too wary I passed on the purple hearts but did visit the small upstairs Black Jack table peeping thorough the gaps between the big minders' shoulders standing behind the immaculately dressed players. Even the silence was filled with menace! Much later working with Christine Keeler's natural father I was to meet Reggie Kray but that is another story. La Discotheque was the start of 50 years of night club dancing never to be forgotten!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38519501.post-79012917430365700882017-01-07T18:58:34.430+00:002017-01-07T18:58:34.430+00:00does anyone know who ran the last chance saloon ? ...does anyone know who ran the last chance saloon ? i remember mick the guy that stood by the saloon swinging doors to mark your hand and i recall haig who i think was the manager ? i was told that raymond nash had a hand in the place , it was my club of choice as a teenager , sometimes i would stand outside and give out cards to passers-by which would get me in for free , i also used to get them kebabs from what was the first kebab house i ever knew about on (i think) rathbone place ? that also would get me in admission free , there were visits to wardour mews in d'arblay st to clubs like the limbo and the take 5 did the rounds to the macabre coffee bar with its tables like coffins the coffee-ann was always a stop-over wardour st would be packed with teenagers outside la discotheque and the flamingo , ham yard was usually buzzing with mods hovering outside the scene, it's all been cleaned up now soho is very respectable compared to those heady days up west back in the 60s , if i ever get into london and have some spare time i have a stroll around the old haunts remembering some of the best times i ever had Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38519501.post-43835487173313074752016-10-04T23:33:15.635+01:002016-10-04T23:33:15.635+01:00We went there a few times a week from mid 1965. I remember we had our hands marked at the door on entry and I also remember the bouncer being shot in the knee cap after that time.
We spent 44 years together until his sad death in 2007.
Does anyone remember him, a young 'mod' guy Chris Ross, sometimes called Christie, with black, curly hair? He was a great dancer and they would often clear the floor to watch him dance - he also danced regularly at The Scene in Ham Yard.
